Packing for a trip

At the time I type this I am getting ready for a trip and thought I would share the information that may be helpful to others.

The first step is to do a little research and planning.  On place to help you with the planning is http://www.flylady.net/d/control-journals/   . She has packing control journals as either a PDF file or Word Document. The journal gives specifics to think about and a very complete packing list. Another place to get some good information is a Kindle edition book called "The Non-boring Vacation Packing Guide." In her book she gives you some things to go.

Don't forget to check the climate for where your going and as it gets closer the weather.  A site www.wunderground.com even gives weather information for your travel route if going  by car. Also

Once you know what bags you are using, where you are going, and what the climate is like, it is time to make the list.  This can be done several ways.  I made my list by bag on an Ipad app. The list can be done on paper, on the computer or simply just start packing. Each child can make a list for their entertainment bag (this is the bag they keep with them in the car, or on other transportation).

When deciding how much clothing to pack you may want to consider a capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe is limited to a few colors and everything works together.  My wardrobe has 4 sweaters, 3 tops, a vest, and 3 bottoms.  From that I can possibly make at least 54 different outfits.  All this can fit in a small suitcase.  Also consider things that are dual purpose, such as tights can be used on colder days as Long Johns and sock, but also worn with a skirt, as an example.  Also what can be shared or purchased at the destination. All these will factor in how you pack.

The bags I have is a suitcase which includes my make-up bag, bathroom bag (this may want to be in a Ziploc bag to catch leaks), and jewelry bag/ health bag (this bag has three pockets).  The entertainment bag, the snack bag/container, a cooler with drinks, and  the hobby bag (I am a cross-stitcher, knitter, crocheter).

There are videos and different theories of how to best pack a suitcase, my suggestion is to go on YouTube and decide what will work for you.

Good Luck and enjoy your trip
